Nurse Triage Services in Illinois
Illinois is not in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so triage for Illinois patients requires a Illinois license. PCTS RNs hold IL licenses and cover practices in Illinois after hours and during the day.
What Illinois practices need to know
Illinois is not in the Nurse Licensure Compact. RNs are licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, and a multistate license does not cover patients located in Illinois.
Illinois is surrounded by compact states, so practices near the borders, from the Chicago suburbs to the St. Louis metro area, routinely see patients from Indiana, Wisconsin or Missouri. Those patients can be covered by a compact license; the practice's Illinois patients cannot.
PCTS RNs hold Illinois licenses as well as compact licenses, so an Illinois practice gets one triage service for its patients on both sides of the state line.

Nurse triage in Illinois: common questions
Is Illinois in the Nurse Licensure Compact?
No. Illinois is not a Nurse Licensure Compact jurisdiction, so a multistate license does not authorize nursing practice there. A Illinois license is required.
Do PCTS nurses hold IL licenses?
Yes. Calls from patients located in Illinois go to PCTS RNs licensed in Illinois. PCTS nurses are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
What about our patients in neighboring states?
Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky and Indiana — every neighboring state — are compact states. PCTS routes every call to a nurse licensed where the patient is located, so patients on either side of the border are covered by the same service.
