Nurse Triage Services in Michigan
Michigan is not in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so triage for Michigan patients requires a Michigan license. PCTS RNs hold MI licenses and cover practices in Michigan after hours and during the day.
What Michigan practices need to know
Michigan is not in the Nurse Licensure Compact. RNs are licensed through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and a multistate license does not authorize triage for patients located in Michigan.
Practices in southern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula often have patients in Ohio, Indiana or Wisconsin, all compact states. A triage service needs Michigan licenses for the practice's Michigan patients and compact licenses for the rest.
PCTS RNs hold Michigan licenses alongside compact licenses, covering both.

Nurse triage in Michigan: common questions
Is Michigan in the Nurse Licensure Compact?
No. Michigan is not a Nurse Licensure Compact jurisdiction, so a multistate license does not authorize nursing practice there. A Michigan license is required.
Do PCTS nurses hold MI licenses?
Yes. Calls from patients located in Michigan go to PCTS RNs licensed in Michigan. PCTS nurses are licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
What about our patients in neighboring states?
Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin are compact states. PCTS routes every call to a nurse licensed where the patient is located, so patients on either side of the border are covered by the same service.
